From staff reports Every major area of giving through the Baptist State Convention (BSC) - Cooperative Program (CP), special mission offerings and other designated gifts - registered gains in 1999. The BSC received a record $58.76 million for all causes from the state's 3,800 affiliated churches, according to an unaudited report from the Convention's business office. The CP, the denomination's unified missions budget, received a record $33.23 million last year, a $1.5 million increase over 1998 giving. Both the regular ($32.5 million) and challenge ($600,000) CP budgets were fully funded in 1999. The largest increase in giving was for disaster relief - $2.5 million earmarked for Hurricane Floyd damage in eastern North Carolina. By comparison, N.C. Baptists contributed $775,000 in 1998 and 1999 for Hurricane Mitch disaster relief in Honduras. The three special mission offerings all reported modest increases last year. The N.C. Missions Offering received $2.07 million in 1999, about a $4,000 increase over the 1998 offering. The 1999 statewide goal was $2.46 million. The offering provides all of the support for N.C. Woman's Missionary Union, Baptist Men and special state mission projects. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International (foreign) Missions received $10.8 million from N.C. churches, representing about a $100,000 increase over 1998. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American (home) Missions was $4.9 million in North Carolina - about $10,000 more than received from state Baptist churches in 1998. These amounts only reflect the money sent through the state Convention offices for these special Southern Baptist offerings. The 1999 North Carolina goal for Lottie Moon was $10.5 million and $4.7 million for Annie Armstrong.
