When is the Biblical Recorder updated?

Breaking news that the Biblical Recorder staff believes to be of special importance to the North Carolina Southern Baptist community is posted as the stories become available. Links to breaking stories are usually found on the:

• home page.
• news index page.
• PDA-friendly home index.
• Cellphone-accessible Wireless Markup Language (WML) home index.
• RSS consolidated feed.
• RSS news-only feed.

We offer more information about our PDA-friendly content, cellphone-accessible WML pages and RSS feeds.

New material is often posted several times a week.

Stories and columns destined for the bi-weekly print issues are posted on Friday nights. Many users of the site access those shortly after they are posted. Email notices are sent out to registered users as soon as that posting is complete.

Tar Heel Voices letters are published on the Web site as they are verified and processed by the staff.

Classified ads are posted on Fridays with the other features.

How may I register for e-mail notifications from the Biblical recorder staff?

Are there online features that do not appear on paper?

There are several.

Six of them are:

1. The Editor's Journal, a pioneering blog written by BR Editor Tony Cartlege.
2. BR Blogs -- the blogs of regisered users of the Editor's Journal. Their latest entries are summarized in The Buzz. To add your views to The Buzz, just register for a free account.
3. The Biblical Recorder's Online Calendar of events of interest to Baptists.
4. Personal Web calendars for registered users of The Editor's Journal. Just register for your free account.
5. ChurchSearch, a database of North Carolina churchs.
6. Searchable Biblical Recorder content dating back to the launch of the site

More are planned.

For example, space limitations make it likely that some of the Tar Heel voices letters that appear online will never find a home on the on-paper edition. Online, however, space is not a compelling concer.

What browser should I use?

For this view of the site, a recent release of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Safari or some other, reasonably standards-compliant browser will serve you well.

Bear in mind that this site has several, different "views."

The view your are using now is implemented using standards-compliant Cascading Style Sheets.

It is designed with careful attention to the needs of handicapped users. This view can be read using any, reasonably standards-compliant Web browser.

There are three other views.

Two of those are abbreviated, although the Biblical Recorder is open to requests that those views be enlarged.

The other three views are:

• One for cellphones. It is implimented in Wireless Markup Language (WML). The news, opinion, classified ads and other selected content are published in WML.
• One for Personal Digital Assistants. The PDA view is implemented in very simple, standards-compliant HTML. The news, opinion, classified ads and other selected content are maintained in PDA-friendly format.
• One printer-friendly view of the site that is dynamically created from the site's standard view.
