After reading the article "Unity blossoms at New Baptist Covenant" (Feb. 16 printed issue of the Recorder. Click here to read a longer version of the article.) I was amazed, yet I am concerned. While this event promoted unity at the same time unity in what? Much was mentioned concerning hurting people which we can see everyday around us. There was much mentioned about the problem but not a clear solution.
Scripture was quoted but I am afraid taken out of context. While at the same time there was the questioning of the sufficiency of Scripture. The solution to the problem is not new - it is in the Bible. It just needs to be applied and proclaimed.
The solution is the proclamation of the gospel. This is to be done in word but can be shown in deed. For kindness demonstrates the love of God, yet God loves people where they are, but He loves them so much that He sent His Jesus to die on the cross so they would not have to stay in the condition they are in.
Paul reminds us in the book of Romans that the gospel "is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16). It is the gospel where we can obtain unity and with that unity we can go forth and share and see God change lives.
