We are not called to link with the secular

In response to the editorial about faith-based initiatives: Moses saw a problem; his fellow Israelites were in bondage to the Egyptians. Moses initially chose to use worldly methodology to rectify the problem when he killed the Egyptian and buried him in the sand.

God's desire was not to kill off the Egyptians but to rescue the prisoners! We are not called to link arm-in-arm with the secular (or secular concepts) to accomplish Godly purposes. We have been set apart, and our goal is to be pliable and to be used by God, in His supernatural, sometimes confounding way, to rescue the prisoners.

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

God does expect militancy from us, but our militancy is to be spent on our knees. Lasting change comes through discipleship to Jesus Christ, not from the political arena. In the words of Tertullian, "what does Athens have to do with Jerusalem?"
