Kathryn Carson, graphics manager for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina for three years, won seven design awards during the April 18 national meeting of the Baptist Communicators Association in Phoenix, Ariz., including the top Albert McClellan Award for significant achievement in the field.
K Brown, BSC videographer, who led several seminars at the meeting, won six awards in his field, and Biblical Recorder Editor Norman Jameson earned first place awards in both news and feature series.
Work is judged from among entries from many Baptist agencies and institutions nationwide, including colleges, mission boards, newspapers, churches and state convention organizations.
In addition to the top McClellan Award, Carson earned four firsts, a second and an honorable mention in various categories. She won firsts in design of book, poster, specialty giveaway and specialty print items. She won second for brochure and an honorable mention for promotional brochure.
Brown, a frequent winner in both still and video photography, won first, second and honorable mention for photos still photos covering Carolina Faith Riders, Grifton ministries and Kenya. In video, Brown won first, second and honorable mentions for coverage of the Baptist Mens project with India and for videos on the Graffiti ministry in New York City. Browns wife Dana shared several video honors with him.
Jameson, editor since August 2007, won first place awards for news series on the stories covering the Woman's Missionary Union changes in relationship with the Baptist State Convention and for the feature series "Inside Out," which highlighted the chief executives of North Carolina Baptist agencies and institutions.
