Norman Jameson was elected editor of the Biblical Recorder today by the newspaper's Board of Directors.
Jameson, currently the executive leader for public relations and resource development for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC), will become the 19th editor of the Recorder. He will succeed Tony W. Cartledge, who is retiring to become an associate professor of Old Testament at Campbell University Divinity School.

"My entire professional career, whether it be editing, writing, fund-raising or public relations has pointed me toward this moment," he said. "I'm neither a theologian nor an ideologue. Consequently, I don't anticipate the Recorder being the fulcrum of great theological debate as much as being a source of information and challenge for North Carolina Baptists to be on mission."
Jameson said his 30 years' experience in Baptist life has been at all levels: from the SBC Executive Committee, to national institutions, to two state conventions, to a state institution. In North Carolina, though, where he's been for 20 years, "I've found a home in a caring family of great, diverse, Christians," he said.
Joe Babb, the chairman of the Recorder board and the search committee that recommended Jameson, said the board is pleased that Jameson accepted the appointment.
"We're looking forward to working with him," Babb said. "We're confident he'll do a good job."
Jameson, 54, is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He has worked for the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph, Baptist Press, Southwestern Seminary and the Oklahoma Baptist Messenger. He served for 12 years as communications director for Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina.
Jameson has won numerous writing awards from the Baptist Communicators Association and the Religious Public Relations Council. He was ordained in 1999 by First Baptist Church in High Point.
Jameson, and his wife, Sue Ellen, are members of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. They have three adult children: Nathan, Erin and Austin.
