INDIANAPOLIS - Three N.C. Baptist churches each have two members nominated or appointed to serve on Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) committees and boards.
In all 11 N.C. Baptists were announced as nominees or appointees.Nominees to serve on the SBC Executive Committee, the four denominational boards - International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources and Annuity Board - the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the six seminaries and the Committee on Order of Business were selected by the 2004 SBC Committee on Nominations.
Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, June 15-16 in Indianapolis.Al Gilbert, senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, has been nominated for a spot on the SBC Executive Committee. He will replace Bruce O. Martin, pastor of Village Baptist Church in Fayetteville, who is ineligible for re-election.
Barry D. Hartis, a layperson and member of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, has been nominated for the Annuity Board. He will replace George B. Walker of Winston-Salem who is ineligible for re-election.Another member of Lawndale, Donna L. Nealy, the church secretary, has been nominated for a spot on the International Mission Board. She will replace Pamela W. Blume, wife of Allan Blume, pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Boone.
Pamela Blume has been appointed by SBC President Jack Graham to the SBC Committee on Committees, The main responsibility of the Committee on Committees is to nominate members of the Committee on Nominations, which, in turn, nominates trustees to serve on the various national entities of the SBC.Allan Blume has been nominated for a spot on the Committee on Order of Business. His term will expire in 2007.
Steve Hardy, a staff member of Gilbert's church in Winston-Salem and editor of the Conservative Carolina Baptist newsletter, was also appointed to the Committee on Committees.The committee has 70 members, two from each of the 35 state or regional conventions qualified for representation on SBC entities.
Richard A. Byrd, senior pastor of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church in Greensboro and O. G. (Tim) Locher, a layperson and member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville have also been nominated for the International Mission Board.Byrd will replace Lee W. Waldron of Asheville, who resigned. His term will expire in 2005. Locher's term will expire in 2008.
Willo'deane F. Tenery of Mocksville has been nominated for a second term on the North American Mission Board.Ronald C. Barber of Wilmington has been nominated for a second term on the LifeWay Christian Resources board.
Jack E. Fallaw of Charlotte has been nominated for a second term as a trustee at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest.
