Rates & Policies

The Biblical Recorder, journal of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, is a 16-24 page tabloid size newspaper published biweekly.

With an average circulation of nearly 45,000 the printed version of the Biblical Recorder is mailed directly to homes and offices in 48 states and 53 foreign countries. Our surveys indicate that most copies are read by two or more people. More than 1.3 million residents of the state are members of 4,000 Baptist churches and missions in North Carolina.

Advertisers with products and/or services to offer North Carolina Baptists are invited to advertise through the pages of the Biblical Recorder. All advertising is subject to approval by the Editor.

Print Ad Requirements

Print display ads must be submitted in a digital format (PDF, JPG, EPS or TIFF) or camera-ready format that BR staff will layout for a small fee. Ads must be correct size (camera ready) or be subject to rejection or a surcharge for typesetting. Submission Deadline

The deadline for receiving ads is two weeks prior to the publication date. The Biblical Recorder is dated for Saturday publication.

Print advertising is sold by the column inch (one column wide by one inch deep).

Page Format

The Biblical Recorder format is a four-column page.

Each column is two and five-sixteenths inches (14 picas) wide.

Ads may also be purchased by the eighth, quarter, half, and full page.

Required Column Widths

• 1 column: 2 and 5/16 inches (14 picas)
• 2 column: 4 and 7/8 (29 and 1/2 picas)
• 3 column: 7 and 1/2 inches (45 picas)
• 4 column: 10 inches (60 picas)

2008 Commercial Rates:

• $52 Per Column Inch
• $379 per Eighth Page (4 7/8 inches by 3 3/8 inches)
• $603 per Quarter Page (4 7/8 inches by 7 3/8 inches)
• $1,131 per Half Page (10 inches by 7 3/8 inches)
• $2,111 per Full Page (10 inches by 14 1/2 inches)
• $3,921 per Two Page Spread (2 @ 10 inches by 14 1/2 inches)
• $7,238 per Four Page Insert (4 @ 10 inches by 14 1/2 inches)

Color: Ads can be printed in full color for an additional $200 with the advertiser supplying all color separations or digital format. Ads can be printed in a single spot color or with color half screen background for an additional $100.

• 5 percent for three to eight papers.
• 10 percent for nine to 14 papers.
• 15 percent for 15 to 20 papers.
• 20 percent for 21 or more papers.

Classified Ads

Classified ads will be priced at $1.20 per word or separate initial for Baptist churches and organizations, $1.42 for commercial and non-Baptist entities with a minimum charge of $35. For example, "S.B.C." or "N. Broad St." would count as three words while "SBC" or "1330" would count as one word. Ads will include the name of the staff position or items offered for sale in bold print on the first line.

Classified ads will be posted - at no additional charge - on the Web site, where they will run for the same length of time as the printed ads.

Classified advertisers wishing to post ads on the Website alone can do so at a cost of $45 for up to 50 words for one month, or $80 for 51 to 100 words for one month.

Each additional month is 75% or the cost of the first month.

Payment Policies

First-time advertisers should submit payment with order. Previous advertisers with established credit will be billed at the end of each month with payment due upon receipt of invoice.
