Steve DeVane, managing editor of the Biblical Recorder

Steve DeVane Steve DeVane, a native of Fayetteville, joined the staff of the Recorder in January 1997 after serving newspapers across North Carolina for more than nine years. As a military writer for the Fayetteville Observer-Times, DeVane broke a national story focusing on a Fort Bragg soldier who was charged with spying by breaking into Army computers. While covering law enforcement for the Bladen Journal in Elizabethtown, his article about a mail bomb being sent from the local post office received national attention. In Lenoir County, county commissioners decided for several months to stop having closed meetings because DeVane was reporting details from those meetings. DeVane's reporting was the focus of an Associated Press article and numerous editorials across the state.

In 2002, DeVane received the Baptist Communicators Association's Frank Burkhalter Award for exceptional achievement in news writing.
